learning to fly…like a dolphin

This this past Saturday I had a near death experience, but it was all in the name of trying to fly thru the air like a dolphin does when it jumps out of the water(or that is what I’m saying).

We had just gotten on our bikes on North 6th Street in Williamsburg after a little shopping (can you guess where I was shopping on N. 6?), and about 2 minutes after I got on my bike I was launched through the air.  I didn’t have enough time to react, but bent my head toward the sky and pulled my arms in toward my chest and landed on my stomache about 5 feet in front of my bike.

The front tire of my bike was turned a full 90 degrees so it was perpendicular with my bike (rather than h0w it should be: parallel).  I really should have taken a picture of it…but I was way too shaken up.

It was partially my fault for riding the wrong way up the street, and I’m super glad that a car wasn’t coming or you might not be reading this blog right now. Luckily my body, camera which was in my pocket, and all of the records in my bag were still in tact…and I just had to put my wheel and my break back into usable positions.

This is a call for the potholes of North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to be fixed (particularly the ones between Berry and Wythe).  Along with this blog post I will also be calling 311 to report these death traps.  I kid you not, a regulation size basketball could fit in this thing. Beware, and wear your helmet…I know I will from now on, even if I’m just going a couple blocks.

On the up side I have almost mastered flying like a dolphin…if I try really hard I can jump from standing still and land on my stomach on the top of a car (sometimes even and SUV!)…it really is pretty impressive.
