Monday night Golden Girls played the last night of the Worcester Invasion of NYC with DOM at Cake Shop.  At this point I had only heard two songs by Golden Girls, but “Newports” and “Dreams” were plenty to peak my interest.

Golden Girls slightly dirty guitar driven rock was what I expected, and for the most part…that is what I got.  I was totally surprised when the band banged through “Newports” and “Dreams” right off the bat, most bands would save one of the singles for the end of the set but these guys have no reason too.  The only two songs that I was familiar with were done, and I had the rest of the set to just take in who the Golden Girls actually are.  The two singles are a very good representation of the band, and guitar rock was what comprised most of their set, there were a couple heavier jams (very heavy and Shellac influenced), but I think the direction they are moving is to this guitar pop that they do so well, and I could see that very much at the for front of their new songs.

When watching this band the first thing you realize is that the two guitarists, Andy and Ben, can really play guitar…and I mean really play.  Almost every song has a break down where they let loose, and do what they do best…solo.  While for some bands guitar solos might be the worst part of their set… for Golden Girls that is where they shine.  Andy and Ben know what they are fucking doing, and totally bring it.

I  was able to capture “Dreams,” “Sixteen Candles”(both of which are on their CD and to be released vinyl on Burning Mill Records) and a song that is so new that it doesn’t even have a name yet.  I’m pretty happy with the sound quality, and I think it will give you a taste or just how rad Golden Girls are live.  I’m really into all of these tracks, and I’m very happy to present them to you.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Check out these videos, and then go see Golden Girls when they hit your town.
