Highspeed Drift” is the first track off of Gary War’s Horribles Parade.

This video was made by Jacqueline Castel (of WNYU’s wonderful (Make) the Product radio show).  I was completely unaware that she did music videos until this popped up on No Conclusion.  I’m pretty into the video, and I think it complements  the song (and Horribles Parade in general) wonderfully.  It really gives me the underwater vibe that I get when listening to the album.   Gary War hasn’t steered me wrong yet.  I still need to pick up Galactic Citizen….maybe this weekend.

On another note if you haven’t heard Gary War’s first album New Raytheonport…you should really check it out…and you can do that for free!  New Raytheonport was one of my favorite albums of 2008 that I didn’t actually hear in 2008, and shows a little bit of a lighter side of Gary War and psychedelica.  This free download is possible because of Gary War and the Free Music Archive at WFMU!

Now that it is available for free there is no reason for you not to have this album…and it’s perfect for this last weekend of summer.

Check it out:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

(make the) product

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

When I lived uptown we listened to WNYU all of the time.  It came in over the airwaves, and it was really nice to be able to turn on the radio in the evening and hear wonderful tunes flowing out of the speakers.  Now that I live in Brooklyn I no longer get WNYU ( I guess I’ll settle for WFMU), and I have to listen to it on my computer/iPod.   WNYU has lots of great shows, but since earlier this month I have really been catching up on back episodes of (Make the) Product.

I know that I had listened to this show before, but it was the shows Second Anniversary Party that reminded me what was so special about (Make The) Product:

(Make The) Product! is a weekly one-hour radio program dedicated to demos and otherwise self-released, small press, live, or diy recordings with limited distribution. The show seeks out the best in vinyl, tape cassette, and CD-R releases from the local and international underground.

Needless to say that this is what I have been into lately, and what I hope to produce in the future. Typically when I try to look up a 7″ record on the internet I come across at least one (Make The) Product playlist where the band was played.   The only problem with (Make The) Product is that if you hear something on an episode from a month ago there is a good chance it is already out of print (like The Whines 7″…I’m thinking of pre-ordering the repress).

The show is hosted/produced by Jacqueline Castel who does a pretty great job.  She has bands play live on the show, and guest DJ’s (most recently Night People’s Shawn Reed…this episode was totes rad…I want more X-Ray Eyeballs).  And Jacqueline always seems to be giving away some crazy limited 7″ if you are listening to the show live.

Jacqueline, thanks for producing such a great show.  My only goal is to listen to it closer to the air date so I might be able to snag some of the things that you play that go out of print immediately.

(Make The) Product is on WNYU from 8pm-9pm on Wednesday night.

In the NYC area that is 89.1FM or you can stream it from WNYU.org.
