former ghosts
Wednesday, May 27th, 2009I have recent rediscovered the wonder that is Xiu Xiu’s Women As Lovers, a great record that was released last year, and Jamie Stewart is someone that I generally enjoy his musical endeavors. Recently in my fit of downloading random mp3’s two tracks have ended up on my itunes by Former Ghosts. I didn’t really know what I was getting into on the first track, although the woman’s voice sounded very familiar, but on the second track it was undeniably Stewart’s.
Former Ghosts is the new project of Freddy Ruppert (formerly of This Song Is a Mess But So Am I) in collaboration with Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu), and Nika Roza (Zola Jesus).
I’m not very familiar with Ruppert’s previous work, but Former Ghosts (at least my impression from these two tracks) are going to be a haunting entity. The influence of Stewart and Roza is definitely visible, and this is not a bad thing. The three of them seem to mesh very well together. There is very little information about an actual release, but Tiny Mix Tapes is reporting that there will be a full length out later this year on Upset the Rhythm. This is an album I’m really looking forward to after hearing these tracks.
